Always interested in music and electronics as a kid, Dougal was often finding ways to modify his stereos and guitar amps to make lights flash with his music. Currently, the lighting director for the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, Dougal found his way into lighting through his love of art and music. Dougal studied electronics engineering at N.A.I.T in Edmonton, Alberta before moving to Vancouver in 2003. He started working as a lighting tech and board operator in Vancouver's night clubs in 2008 and soon developed a passion for lighting, driving him to work in many venues and with as many DJs and bands as possible. He quickly developed his skills and moved on to working in larger venues in Vancouver and then on to music festivals and live touring.
Dougal has worked with thousands of artists and performers in hundreds of different Venues across 5 continents. He has operated lights for artists of almost every genre and at every level from students and variety shows, to politicians, super stars, and Royal families. He has given lectures and presentations to university students about his career in lighting. He continues to study lighting science and performance art regularly. When not working or attending a live show you can likely find him out taking photographs or walking with his partner Oliva and dog Yoda in downtown Vancouver.
